How It Started

Elpitha started beekeeping in 2016 with the desire as a bucket list item to try out beekeeping! The first few years were filled with learning, and learning can come with misfortune. She's lost several colonies to bad winters, verroa mites, wax moths, and so fourth. She kept striving to do what she loved and continued to keep bees and try to grow up each hive into a mature honey-producer which is no easy task.

Elpitha also has a green thumb, or as the family says "green hands," that cultivated a vast and beautiful English-style garden paradise in the yard, making it the ultimate honeybee haven. They have lavender, wildflowers, herbs, and all the other plants that deer hate. They have many deer in the neighborhood, making gardening a difficult task to keep up with. On many occasions has her husband Tom suggested using his shotgun on a few of them, but as much as she hates the deer eating her plants, wouldn't allow "bambi" to be shot. The battle of deer vs gardener continues on today.

Elpitha and Tom's honey dreams finally became realized a few years ago when they managed to harvest around 2-5 gallons of honey! This was the long awaited reward needed for her efforts! Now in 2024, they have managed over 20 gallons of honey from their 8 thriving hives, far too much for a few people to enjoy which is a reason why they started Wax Works Studio LLC.

Come See Us at Your Local Market!

We had our first fair on the weekend of September 21st, 2024 with the Loudon bee Association at the Bluemont Fair in Loudon County, Virginia. All the honey we brought SOLD OUT!

The tent featured free honey tastings, our hand-dipped candles, an observation hive, and fun ink stamps that kids loved! Of all 11 honey options on display from the beekeepers attending, our dark honey was a big hit! We can't wait for the next fair!

We have been inspired to take our honey to you at local weekend markets in Round Hill and Purcellville to share the honey we have left from this season with you in person. We hope you'll bee there!
